NY-Sen: New Siena poll -- Gillibrand 42, Ford 16

by: devtob

Harold Ford of Tennessee, Merrill Lynch, the DLC, NBC and the Park Avenue Regency has been campaigning against the excellent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for six weeks now, and he remains a pathetic loser in the Siena poll.

According to the new poll, Gillibrand leads Ford by 42-16, slightly better than the 41-17 margin in last month's poll.

Ford floundering, below.

Ford's campaign, launched with a New York Times puff piece on Jan. 6, has been the beneficiary of millions worth of free media, especially in NYC newspapers which all essentially endorsed him, gave him op-eds, and covered his every move.

Most coverage has been puffy, but Ford can't help but toss in details like the helicopter visit to Staten Island and his need for pedicures that are more memorable than the puff stuff.

Ford has taken leave from his Merrill Lynch schmoozing job to campaign full-time -- touring the state, meeting with political leaders, hiring staff, sending out nasty negative press releases about Gillibrand, etc.

And it's all been for nought.

The idea of Ford as a NY Senator never had much appeal beyond his rich friends in Manhattan, and this poll confirms that.

Dicker is playing "Nowhere Man" to mock Paterson, (4.00 / 2)
but that applies even more to Ford -- "making all his nowhere plans for nobody," indeed.

Could be worse (4.00 / 2)
Paterson's numbers against Cuomo are about as bad -- and Paterson's an actual New Yorker.

Hopefully these polls nip this whole thing (4.00 / 4)
and we don't have to suffer through a full-throated campaign machine, as opposed to what's already been an insufferable semi-campaign.

Fantasy: (4.00 / 3)
Both Ford and Zuckerman realize this is a waste of time and effort, and MONEY.... and call it off, and encourage all their wealthy contributors to just give the money directly to NYS for use in keeping the parks open.

It's also funny that Zuckerman doesn't do well (4.00 / 1)
Admittedly, if he's willing to sink a ton of his own money into a campaign, he might do better, but even after the gush thrown his way by the NY Post, he's not even a real blip on the political radar.

What I find amusing is that the more they attack Gillibrand, the more her favorables have gone up.  That, along with her name recognition.  This is what many of us call... a hint.  The Manhattan circle may not get it, though.

Paterson's trying to make himself seem like he's the only one who makes "tough decisions."  He fails at it, because not only are the decisions unpopular, they're handled ineptly and he's not willing to address real reform.

The most hilarious aspect of this polling.... (4.00 / 2)
When Ford goes by the name...Edsel...he gets 18% in the Siena Poll....:)

He can only drop out from here, right? (4.00 / 2)
I mean, these numbers mean more than a sure lose, they're a prophecy of the kind of electoral embarrassment that ends careers, right?

Gillibrand looks poised to crush him in the primary and whip him in the general. There's nothing more for Helicopter Harry to win in any scenario. He's already won the only thing possible: his name all over the media.

Time to throw it in, Shallow Hal.
