Nassau Exec Ed Mangano Appoints Tax-Cheating, Vote-Supressing, Former Bruno, Espada Hack

Nassau County Exec Ed Mangano, a tax cheat himself has now nominated John Ciampoli, a man with over $300,000 in outstanding tax liens to be Nassau County Attorney.
The Republican majority provided the four votes needed to approve him, and did not even bring up an eight year-old federal tax lien, since resolved, and a another federal tax lien from last year that is still pending.

However, being a tax cheat is not the only claim to fame for John Ciampoli.  He was also involved in past GOP efforts at voter suppression and served as a an attorney to the magical triumvirate of Joe Bruno, Dean Skelos and Pedro Espada.

Nassau voters threw a dedicated, innovative public servant out of the County Executive's office last November and chose to return the corrupt Nassau Republican machine to power.  The chickens have officially come home to roost.

"Nassau voters threw a dedicated, innovative public servant out of the County Executive's office last November and chose to return the corrupt Nassau Republican machine to power."

Whoa that's some sweeping statement. Don't know if you have the firsthand knowledge to back it up or not.

This Nassau resident held his nose to vote for Suozzi (and only did so because of the WFP endorsement.

Look, he had a very good first term and yes, he had some great ideas, particularly involving infrastructure improvement.

However, Tom's biggest problem was Tom. Just like Giuliani and others who come in to breathe some fresh air into a stagnant mess, his early success created a swelled head and unbridled arrogance.

His accomplishment for his second term was nothing. No lighthouse project, no downtown developments, no brownfield cleanups, nothing beyond an embarrassing run for Governor.

Tom would walk into a room like the second coming and assume the world would do whatever he wanted. When it didn't work out that way he would throw a hissy fit (often in public) and blame everyone and everything.

He singlehandedly caused the loss of the legislature because Judy Jacobs wouldn't completely kiss his tail, so he fomented the mess the placed his puppet Yaturo as Legislative leader, which was a complete disaster.

Nassau, now majority of which are now registered D, grew tired of him and his act.

To boot, he ran the most presumptive campaign ever, constrasting with Mangano who comes from a union family and worked real hard to earn the support of voters. He made a case that he was not a  D.C.-type Republican and respected what the left had to say even if he didn't necessarily agree.

Mangano will either do a good job or be a 1 termer. Nassau hasn't gone back to being conservative, it just got sick of Tom's nonsense.

This isn't about Suozzi. (4.00 / 1)
It's about Ciampoli.

If you want to spout off about Tom, start a new diary.

Just sayin'.

Gee, (or should I say G-O-P) (4.00 / 1)
is that the same John-I-get-to-decide-if-your-vote-will-count-Ciampoli that was hired to hold up the elections in Columbia County for a couple of months? Hmm?

If it's true that he has >$300,000 in tax liens, then maybe it ISN'T true that he worked for the Columbia County Republicans pro-bono.

Hmm...
