| Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals of Democracy for America (you may know it as DFA), the group founded by Howard Dean. We're proud to have TAP folks as members.
DFNYC has continually petitioned electeds to end the war, and spoken out for withholding funds. A totally volunteer, non-profit political action committee, DFNYC works for fiscally responsible, socially PROGRESSIVE candidates to WIN, at ALL levels of government.
Because of yesterday's terrible vote, Democracy for NYC is NOT caving. In point of fact, we are CHARGED. Read on. |
| Yesterday's vote in Congress was a kick in the pants, highlighting the need to pressure our electeds to correctly decide on the war, verified voting, civil rights, stem cells, the climate crisis, you name it.
Since democracy brings politics to ordinary people, this work does NOT stop. In light of this, we will hold our annual fundraiser this Wednesday, May 31. Should you choose to come, you will meet Jim Dean of Democracy for America and new Congressman John Hall (that's right, he voted "No"). Laughing Liberally will share the trademark biting commentary we've come to know and love.
The money we raise goes for two purposes only - 1. outreach, and 2. supporting volunteer work for our endorsed candidates. We have no staff, and no office. We DO have trips, phonebanks and fundraisers for progressive Democratic candidates.
A bigger progressive majority will stop war-funding, outlaw insecure touchscreen voting machines, provide healthcare for all, promote science, and support the environment. DFNYC finds grassroots progressives to call our electeds on urgent issues, and to volunteer in winning elections.
Congressman John Hall is one of our endorsed candidates. 'Nuff said.
Contributions go from $50 to whatever. Your call. Contact us to discuss, if you'd like.
On May 30th, besides Jim, John, and the knowledge that WHAT YOU DO MATTERS, here's what you get:
Free hors d'ouevres till 8, cash bar till you say "when."
Cool escape from the elements at Link Bar and Lounge, 120 E. 15th St. (at Irving Place), NYC.
Partying from 6:30 - 9:30 pm.
