Paterson Watch: Will it be this Weekend?

by: Roatti

Fri Mar 05, 2010 at 11:44:33 AM EST

News reports are surfacing that Governor Paterson is convening an emergency staff meeting at 2:30 today.  Is he going to tell his staff he is resigning?

Will there be a Governor Ravitch by Monday?

Dunno, but... (4.00 / 1)
I actually read this as the kind of thing that would only happen if Paterson was already preparing his exit.  Towns, et al are able to rail against the "trial in the press" without worrying about him actually being in the way making it impossible to reach a budget deal.

Governor Malcom Smith? (4.00 / 1)
So if the gang of 4 hadn't forced Paterson to appoint Ravich as Lt. Gov, then Sen. Smith as President of the Senate would have been next in line for the Gov. office.

We may want a new Gov... (0.00 / 0)
...but what we really need is an amendment to the state constitution regarding lines of succession.

This is confusing.  I'm logging out!

Anybody but (4.00 / 3)
Smith or Espada.

Will Ravich even want to be Gov.? (0.00 / 0)
I was under the impression that he kind of took the job to be a deciding vote, not much else.

[ Parent ]
He's run for office before, albiet a long time ago (4.00 / 1)

[ Parent ]
Oh boy. Just what we didn't need. (4.00 / 2)
As much as I dislike Paterson, was happy he decided not to run, and can't wait to see the back of him, I can't say I'm happy that he might - or will - resign.  It will be yet another in a series of disasters that this state has had the past few years, and we just don't need it now.

I'd be very surprised if he resigns (4.00 / 1)
That said you can never underestimate or overestimate the rationality of David A. Paterson.

I wouldn't be surprised (4.00 / 2)
no matter what happens now, I'm not going to be surprised.  Last week, I never would have believed that he'd step down so close to the end.  Right now?  I wouldn't be surprised if he quits before supper time.

But for fuck's sake, what do we do then?  Ravitch?  And does he get to appoint a Lt. Gov?  This is gettin messy.

Apparently He Did Not (4.00 / 3)
His staff was just given a speech to continue doing the state/peoples work.

As much as I dislike Paterson unless he's indicted for purjury or for his part in Johnson's domestic abuse I want him to stay on until Cuomo is elected.

If it does come to that.... (4.00 / 3)
...remember that every Republican Senator voted for the coup this past summer...

And, if they had prevailed, we would be looking at Governor Espada...brought to you by Dean Skelos and all his blind minions.

We've got some work ahead of us.

Gov Paterson please don't resign (0.00 / 0)
I hate your guts, but I hope you'll hang on until your term expires.

Clearly (2.67 / 3)
he isn't planning to have Exxon-Mobil hydrofrack your backyard and turn it into a toxic waste pool and/or West Virginia.  Can't go fast enough for my taste, at this point.

[ Parent ]
Clearly (0.00 / 0)
you know nothing about me and are projecting here.  If you disagree about Paterson resigning, I respect that.

[ Parent ]
OK. (0.00 / 0)
You write a comment including the words "I hate your guts," but are troll-rating me for assuming that if Paterson was planning to have the DEC issue a permit for some gas company to hydrofrack your backyard, you would want him gone?  Sorry to be making unwarranted assumptions.  I guess I am wrong, and some people who will have gas wells and frack fluid ponds in their backyards don't blame the Governor who is overseeing the DEC for it.  I do.
