Defeating the Slasher

by: Roatti

Sat Mar 06, 2010 at 17:36:08 PM EST

Just got back from a day of canvassing for Assemblyman Jose Peralta.  His organization seemed very motivated and not taking anything for granted, and it was a great experience on a beautiful day.  The feedback from the voters was almost completely pro-Peralta, but the Slasher did have his organization on the ground and appears to be making an effort.  Below is a photo of a Monserrate worker talking to voters.  Twice when I passed her, I yelled "Don't vote for a criminal!"  The second time, she yelled back "vote for somebody in the community!"  Yeah, like the local Assemblyman is a real carpetbagger...

Also notice the Obama-type logo on the sign.  Shameless.

This photo is inside Peralta HQ- everyone there was really motivated and made me feel confident that soon we will no longer have to worry about having the slashing shame of the state in our legislature ever again.

If the Senate voted him out how can he return? (0.00 / 0)
I don't understand. Can someone please explain the legality? Even if he wins again, doesn't the vote to expel him still stand? If not, won't they just vote to expel him again? Am I missing something?

They could theoretically expel him again (0.00 / 0)
but a part of the court's holding that said the voter' of the district didn't have their due process rights violated was because they had the option to return Slasher to the Senate in the special election.

Thanks for keeping us informed (0.00 / 0)
Just remind them that he voted with the Republicans. Voters in the district might not know Peralta, but they certainly don't like Republicans or anyone that votes for Republicans.

They should (0.00 / 0)
one criticism that I had today was that the campaign literature was way too positive.  It didn't even mention Monserrate.

That's dumb (4.00 / 1)
The whole campaign should be built on being the anti-Slasher.
Saying, "Vote for me because I'm a nice guy" won't cut it for someone with little name recognition in a special election going against a still popular "incumbent".
The message should be, "Vote for me because that other guy is a criminal and votes with Republicans."
