Must See TV - Hiram The Slasher Driven Away From Peralta HQ

by: ActionJax

Mon Mar 15, 2010 at 13:08:47 PM EDT

The huevos on this guy. Not only is he trying to get back the seat his colleagues just voted 53-8 to kick him out of, not only is he brazenly stealing President Obama's logo and slogan, now he decides he's going to just show up outside Jose Peralta's campaign HQ and try to do some politicking. What happened next was both hilarious and heartening for those of us in the district.

What a tool.

It's the homestretch! Volunteer, Donate and help elect Jose Peralta to the state senate SD-13!

That video was fantastic.

Look at his face when the crowd starts chanting "NO MORE MONSERRATTE!"

Precious!

What An AHole (4.00 / 1)
Hiram is.  What was the point except for ignorance, of going to Peralta's headquarters?  Did he think Peralta's volunteers were going to come out in droves kissing his sorry a$$?

Anyway, I am upset that Peralta did not readily admit to the slasher ad but he'll be better than Monseratte and right now I hear he's leading the Slasher at least 3 to 1.

God Bless the MIS Crew (4.00 / 1)
Great work - keep it going through tomorrow!

Motivation? (0.00 / 0)
Is it possible that Monserrate, knowing he needs to pull a rabbit out of a hat, showed up at the Peralta headquarters hoping to provoke a violent reaction?  If he had been attacked by "Peralta thugs," he might have been able to pick up some sympathy votes (two or three, anyway).

If that was his hope, he clearly failed.  Other than a couple of people pointing fingers kind of close to Monserrate's face, everyone was remarkably well-behaved.

Looking like Tony Soprano there. (0.00 / 0)
Wondering when Paulie Walnuts is going to show up.

I Have A Question (0.00 / 0)
Tonight on NY-1 they showed Monserrate on a truck driving through the streets with megaphones blasting out his crap.  Isn't the use of megaphones illegal except in a confinded location?

Not really (0.00 / 0)
You can get a permit to use megaphones, or you can just do it as part of a campaign.  Campaign speech is usually given far wider latitude than anything else.

Another example of campaign speech being given more freedom is the posters the campaigns put up on lampposts and other poles.  They're all illegal, but if a candidate is doing an appearance the posters are allowed during and just before the appearance -- and of course the posters are up all day on election day.  As long as the campaign takes the posters down after the candidate's appearance or after the polls close on election day, there are generally no fines given out.

Meanwhile, I think that a truck with loudspeakers is a waste of money.  Everyone who might vote already knows who Monserrate is and what they think of him, and most of the likely voters are voting for Peralta.  The last thing the campaign should want is to alert everyone that there is an election today; they should want a "don't get out the vote" effort to suppress voting by those who won't be voting for him.

Anyone have a link to the live returns tonight! (0.00 / 0)
junkies want to know!

Tony Soprano is right (0.00 / 0)
There's something creepy about this...

I have worked for a lot of candidates and I've practically lived in their HQs during the last few days of a campaign. I have also swapped just about every campaign war-story that you've ever heard, and yet I have never heard of a candidate canvassing at his opposition's HQ.

This is nothing but taunting or territorial pissing on Monserrate's part. He's trying to show Peralta that it's his district, win or lose. There are a lot of politicians who think of their districts as little fiefdoms, but it looks like Monserrate has kicked it up a notch. It seems that there's more power than just a seat in the Senate that he's desperately trying to hold on to.

So, why am I worried that his impending loss will bring nothing but more indignant gesturing from Hiram come the 17th?

Absolutely (0.00 / 0)
Expect the campaign for Peralta's Assembly seat to be even uglier.

Depends on who's running (0.00 / 0)
If Monserrate gets the ass-kicking he so richly deserves (politically speaking, of course), he won't have time to get up off the mat for the Assembly election, which will almost certainly be a special.  Meanwhile, it'll be Francisco Moya vs. Bryan Pu-Folkes vs. whoever the Republicans put up (Helen Sears again?).
