NY-GOV: Republicans preparing to send in their "A Team" candidate...

"A" as in "Adultery"...

Today's Daily News reports that Buffalo businessman and soon-to-announce Republican candidate for Governor Carl Paladino had a child with his mistress 10 years ago -- and kept it from his wife until last year.

New York State GOP gubernatorial hopeful Carl Paladino has 10-year-old love child

ALBANY - A controversial conservative businessman who will announce his run for governor Monday fathered a child during an extramarital affair a decade ago.

Buffalo developer Carl Paladino, 63, has been married nearly 40 years to his wife, Cathy.

The two had three grown children together - one of whom died in a car crash last year. It was only after that tragedy that Paladino confessed to his wife he had a secret love child, a now-10-year-old girl. A Buffalo-area source identified the child's mother as Sue Brady, an ex-staffer of Paladino's Ellicott Development company.

"The Paladinos consider this a private family matter and ask all media to respect their privacy," said campaign manager Michael Caputo, who would not confirm the woman's name.

At the same time, Paladino won't run away from the issue - or his young daughter - on the campaign trail, Caputo said. The little girl, his older children and his wife are all set to be at his campaign kickoff in Buffalo tonight.

I guess a cute 10-year old always brightens up a campaign rally...even if she has no idea what's going on and who that strange guy on the stage is.

Remember the first rule of politics (0.00 / 0)
IOKIYAR.  I feel sorry for the little girl, to be honest.  Hopefully the press will leave her alone, and focus on "dad."

What is it with Republicans? If they spent as much energy (4.00 / 3)
writing laws that protect the middle class, as they do catting around, we'd have a strong economy and a middle class that's not constantly under financial pressure.

After Spitzer and Paterson (4.00 / 2)
Paladino might be an upgrade, ethically speaking.

BTW, I haven't heard who would be running for Lt. Gov. Any thoughts?

Up until Paterson (0.00 / 0)
I don't think many people ever thought about it.  I haven't heard anyone mentioned, but I do think that whoever decides to run is going to get a lot more scrutiny than before.

One Lt. Gov. candidate so far (4.00 / 1)
Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence has announced his candidacy.

[ Parent ]
Any thoughts on Buffalo Mayor Myron Brown for Lt. Gov? (4.00 / 1)
I googled upstate ny dem mayor and found many hits for Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown who was rumored to be a candidate to replace Clinton in the Senate.

I found a few blog posts that they are considering running together, but nothing that seemed credible.

Any thoughts?

Byron Brown (4.00 / 1)
not Myron Brown.

This Child (4.00 / 2)
Should be protected and not paraded around in front of the media.  Don't BOTH her parents have any consideration for the feelings of this child?

As for Paladino now entering the race, here's what I feel will happen, Lazio will win the Republican Primary and run there and under the Conservative line, Paladino will run under the Tea Party and they'll split the Republican vote therefore giving Cuomo (come on Andy, it's almost mid April so announce already) a win.

Not seeing it. I suspect Lazio will run (0.00 / 0)
against Gillibrand.  I think the main Senate effort will be Kudlow running against Schumer, hoping for a 1998-style upset.  That might be at least close.

[ Parent ]
No reason to announce yet (4.00 / 1)
since Cuomo won't be primaried. Might as well save some money on campaigning and do some good AG work.

Technically speaking, Cuomo has to July 22 before he has to file opportunity to ballot petitions.

No petitions (4.00 / 1)
He'll be nominated at the convention late next month.

[ Parent ]
That's True Dan (4.00 / 1)
But Cuomo should have consideration for the average voter and let all of us know at least that he intends to run.  There's no opposition to him on the Democratic side and the only thing he's forestalling is the Republican attacks which will come either way.

[ Parent ]
Did not know that (4.00 / 1)
Governor's didn't need to submit petitions. Makes sense. Can you clarify whether State Committee members nominate the candidate or is it some other body?

[ Parent ]
You got it (0.00 / 0)
The state committee members do the voting.  Of course, most state committee members vote the way their county leaders tell them to vote, which is why candidates in contested races are talking with county leaders.

Note that when county leaders back a particular candidate, their "weighted" vote is considered -- that's because different counties have different numbers of people living there.  Since state committee members represent Assembly districts, and each Assembly district has about the same number of people living in it, I don't know whether their votes are weighted based on the number of registered party voters in their AD (perhaps someone could let us know).

[ Parent ]
Ah, so I'd Imagine NYC (0.00 / 0)
County Leaders have people lining up for their endorsements.

Paladino Was On NY-1 Tonight (4.00 / 1)
And if you can I suggest you watch it.  Elizabeth Kaladin was interviewing him and let me tell you, this guy is one SOB.  He was nasty to her, intimidating and if this guy ever became governor I'd move out of State.  Kaladin was constantly on the defensive with him and he seemed to belittle her with every question she would ask.

The problem with people like him (0.00 / 0)
is that they don't grasp that there's a difference between business and politics.  He's used to running his businesses - quite successfully.  If he wants something done, he gives orders and it gets done.   He doesn't have to answer to anyone, and anyone who disagrees with or questions him can either be ignored or fired.

That is not the way it works in government.  He's not going to push around a lot of the people in Albany (particularly the legislature), the news organizations are going to constantly question everything he does, and the vast majority of people in this state aren't working for him.  He's going to get hammered in the process.  If he were to somehow get elected, he'd probably quit in a very short period of time.
