My Endorsement of Didi Barrett for State Senate

by: NYBri

Thu Apr 15, 2010 at 17:31:20 PM EDT

Back in 2006, I ran for the NYS Senate in the 41st District which includes a little more than half of Dutchess and all of Columbia County.

That race was an amazing educational experience for me about politics and campaigns, but most of all, it also gave me a keen insight into what kind of district this is. I met thousands of people in my travels and learned things about our communities that were both surprising and humbling. Although I lost that race, some good came from the experience because the day after the election, Phillip Anderson and I created The Albany Project in my home in the Hudson Valley.

I say all of this as background to talk about what is happening this year in the 41st District.

In short, I am endorsing a terrific candidate who has what it takes to win this year...and serve the Hudson Valley for many years to come. I am endorsing Didi Barrett for the State Senate and I am asking you to do the same.

I have met with her on a number of occasions and find her to be exactly what this district needs to finally have real representation in Albany. Her experience in the non-profit world, her knowledge of the area and her passion to serve will carry her far in the Fall.

But you will have a chance to get to know her and ask her some questions yourself.

Next Wednesday, April 21st from 7:00-7:45 PM, Didi will be taking your questions during a live blogging event here at The Albany Project. We have had some pretty great sessions in the past and I encourage to get to know Didi and get ready to be impressed.

Mark it in your calendar and join us next Wednesday. You won't be sorry.

My Best,
Brian Keeler

If you like Didi. (4.00 / 4)
I do too.

Hopefully, the 41st SD is, like most of the lower Hudson Valley, more Democratic than it was in 2006.

And the extreme teabaggers there will hurt Saland with independents.

Heh. (0.00 / 0)
I believe the word is spelled 'endorsement' with an E.

Didi is an excellent candidate (4.00 / 5)
As a resident and voter of the 41st in Columbia County, it's been refreshing to actually meet Didi Barrett and discuss the issues with her. This is something I have never had the opportunity to do with Senator Saland. I often wonder if he ever meets with constituents because I have never been able to meet with him in Albany, or his district office. Nor do I know anyone, aside from professional lobbyists, who have met with him either. His staff in both Albany and his district office have been completely unresponsive as well.

I think Barrett, not only because of her enthusiasm and desire to run, but her desire to serve, will be more responsive to the entire district.

of course not... (0.00 / 0)
...of course Saland has no interest in your, your viewpoint or what you believe in...he's a Republican...and, unless you come with a massive check to purchase his vote with...he doesn't give two hoots about you. That's pretty much the definition of a Republican...Grand Old Prostitutes for the wealthy elites.

Didi for State Senate (4.00 / 5)
In my position as Hudson City Democratic Committee Chair, I have had the opportunity and pleasure to meet Didi Barrett about a dozen times.  Each time I have seen her, I am more and more impressed.  She is articulate, informed and right on all of the issues I care about.

Her strong support of marriage equality and women's reproductive freedom, stands in stark contrast to Senator Saland's positions.

In addition, her experience in non-profits and arts organizations will serve her well as she seeks to support cultural tourism, and the arts in the district and beyond.  Tourism and the arts are a key component of the Hudson Valley economy.

I am looking forward to working on Didi's campaign and to finally unseating career politician, Stephen Saland.  It is truly time for a change.
