Out in Long Island's 1st state senate district, Regina Calcaterra has been hitting the pavement for the reform agenda earlier than any other reform candidate this cycle. She's starting to reap the rewards of a dynamic and highly-organized campaign with the endorsement of RWDSU today.
The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union today endorsed New York State Senate candidate Regina Calcaterra, D-New Suffolk, of the First Senatorial District, citing her experience in both fighting for working men and women and her proposals to reform state government. The union's backing is the first by organized labor for any candidate in the First Senatorial District, with the decision made to support Calcaterra over her opponent, a 34-year incumbent of the state Legislature in Albany.
"The RWDSU will continue to support candidates who share our values," said RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum. "We must hold accountable politicians who have gridlocked progress because of partisan politics. We need to start working together to bring good jobs to this region and get our economy back on track. We know that Regina Calcaterra is the right person for the job. She is smart, dedicated and will fight not only for the people in her district but for all New Yorkers and that's why we are endorsing her for State Senator."
Frank Bail President of Local 1102 RWDSU, said, "We are proud to endorse State Senate Candidate Regina Calcaterra of the First Senatorial District. We applaud her commitment to the hard working men, women and families of Long Island. We know she'll continue her great work and success for Long Islanders as she heads to Albany."
It's truly impressive to watch Regina campaign. On Facebook you can find pictures of her in the community attending events and doing good works from back in December going forward. She is working within her community and talking to individual voters as well as larger groups. She has an uphill climb but she's turned this race from an outside shot into one of our best pick-up opportunities this cycle. |
