Cuomo Campaign Begins Organizing Grassroot Supporters in Albany County

by: Dan Levin

Thu Jul 15, 2010 at 11:31:18 AM EDT

This weekend, the Cuomo campaign will be hitting upstate New York, visiting more than 10 counties in and around the Capital District including Albany, Saratoga, and Greene County. As news reports have noted, Attorney General Como will be traveling in his RV.

Last night, supporters of the Cuomo campaign gathered at McGeary's bar in Albany to hear from representatives of the Cuomo campaign about Cuomo's plan for winning in November and his upcoming events. In the upcoming weeks, grassroots supporters will be carrying pledge sheets for supporters to sign in agreement of Cuomo's plan to get New York State government back on the right track. By having New Yorkers sign the pledge, the Cuomo campaign will be building a database of contact information for thousands of New Yorkers, in similar fashion to Obama's Organizing for America. Once Cuomo becomes Governor, his campaign will be contacting New Yorkers via his email database of supporters, asking people to contact their Assemblyman or State Senator to support his agenda.

As the Times Union reported, Cuomo will be at the Albany County Democratic Committee picnic this Saturday afternoon and he will also be at the Troy Pigout Street Festival.

If Cuomo is using an OFA model (4.00 / 3)
then let's hope he's learned the lessons of OFA.  It's not enough to just send e-mails to supporters asking them to do x y and z after the campaign is over.  You have to engage supporters.  OFA has done a miserable job of keeping supporters engage during the first 2 years of the Obama Presidency.  I hope Cuomo recognizes this and finds ways to engage his supporters once in office.

couldn't agree more (4.00 / 2)
let's face it, OFA has turned out to be pretty fucking useless.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

So (0.00 / 0)
he's officially running now?

(/snark)

Yes (0.00 / 0)
and he needs to raise a lot of money to be competitive!

Reallly, no snarking.

I think it's great that Cuomo is getting people involved in his campaign. I would love him to see him work with the young people in NY who have taken on leadership positions like mayor's Jason West of New Paltz and Jason Corrigan of Oneonta, NY!

Having the present and future of our state would be a powerful message of hope that New York needs.
