Because What The World Really Needs Is More Country Songs About The 'Ground Zero Mosque'

Seems that this is actually for real and not a SNL short:

Sad to say, this one is also completely legit:

So glad some D-list country singers have chimed in to advise us on land use issues here in big, bad NYC.

Thanks so much.

P.S. Does this mean we get to be part of "real America" now?

Succinct and on target, as usual (4.00 / 1)
That is, indeed, the heart of the matter: are local land use decisions really local, or should they be handled at the State or Federal level?

It seems SO obvious what people like Paterson or Arcuri or Gillibrand should say when asked any question about this non-issue issue: "I certainly don't want to encourage the [state or federal] government to use its power to tell localities where they can or can not build houses of worship.  In our democracy, neighborhood land use decisions are not determined by centralized authority."

Does this mean we get to be part of "real America" now? (4.00 / 2)
Ha!  No.

(Note: the above comment is not an expression of my own opinion, but rather a prediction of the response from those who concern themselves with things like "real Americans.")

Also, too, what the world needs now is to discuss anything other than this non-Ground Zero non-mosque.

I think one was already there when it became Ground Zero. Under (0.00 / 0)
current federal law you can't zone out a religious use under most circumstances, not even addressing the Constitutional issue.

On the other hand, many people view this as what my old friend, then-MAJ Crom, who spent years with the Australian Army, would call "bad form," on both sides.  The Cordoba Project didn't think enough about ripping people's scars and too many people seem to think that Muslims have no rights to religious liberty.

Both sides need to talk.

i knew what the link was before i clicked it. in fact, after i titled this yesterday morning, i had that song in my head all day, especially the line:

what the world needs now
is some true words of wisdom
like "la la la la la la la"

TODAY is day one. It always is.

Now that's what I call country (4.00 / 1)
As far as I'm concerned, country music is anything but.  Corporate country like that highlighted in the diary is purely exploitative music.  That is, rather than the cutlure creating it out of true expression the way Cracker's song "What The World Needs Now" in the style of countless all-American garage bands, these cornbread and bigoted anti-mosque country songs and many tracks like them are produced, recorded, and sold to a sub-culture of America.  It's not real music, there's no truth between the notes, and the country music industry has been all but breeding people to eat this stuff up.

Thanks for highlighting the perfect song for the moment, layman.  I needed that!  Since we're sharing, here's the song that popped into my head as most similar to the two in he diary, care of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who prove that corporate style country music is only good when it's making fun of itself and of right-wing idiots.
