SD-58: Stachowski concedes, Kennedy wins.

by: Adama D. Brown

Tue Sep 14, 2010 at 22:21:30 PM EDT

It's official: Bill Stachowski's decades in Albany are at an end. He's been unseated by Erie County Legislator Tim Kennedy, who now goes into November running against Republican nominee Jack Quinn III.

This is less a victory for the good guys as a whole than it is for certain activism groups. Stachowski was one of the eight "Dems" who voted against the marriage equality bill last fall, making him a high priority target for gay rights groups. Kennedy is pledged in favor of marriage equality, so that's one vote down.

That said, Kennedy is closely associated with Steve Pigeon, and was one of the instigators of the coup that handed control of the Erie County Legislature to the Republican minority and few Democrats looking for patronage.

Legislature results? (0.00 / 0)
Anyone know of a good site to get results for the State Senate & Assembly?  I can't find anything on the Espada/Rivera race or any of the others...

Nice! (0.00 / 0)
Hopefully that's the first of many incumbent State Senators who get thrown out tonight!

I'd be happy (0.00 / 0)
But the replacement is worse. Much worse. We just replaced someone who doesn't care with someone who is actively listening to the devil.

I wouldn't be sad if Kennedy was defeated by the Republican, and that's a very tough thing for me to say.

This and then Pedro... (0.00 / 0)
...has me wondering how the rest of incumbents are doing tonight.

Stac is still on the Ballot (0.00 / 0)
on the Independence line.

Jack Quinn tried a write-in Opportunity to Ballot for the Conservative line, but the Erie County election results seems to indicate that Kennedy won.

A three way race this November.....

Kennedy D, C
Stac  I
Quinn R

WF ?

No (0.00 / 0)
They don't even think about write ins until tomorrow.

Not True..... (0.00 / 0)
Greg Ball mauled Mary Beth Murphy 2-1 in Putnam and Dutchess as a write-in for the Conservative line. Westchester is still not reporting the write-in results for the Conservative line in the 40th.

Allow me to rephrase (0.00 / 0)
in ERIE COUNTY, where I know BOE employees, they don't even think about write ins until tomorrow.

No problem (0.00 / 0)
The Buffalo News just printed:

"Republicans believe Quinn has a good chance this year to grab this heavily Democratic district.

Stachowski remains on the Independence Party line in November.

Kennedy also faced a write-in challenge to his Conservative Party line on the general-election ballot. Elections officials said they won't know this result until next week."

But based on the results, Kennedy had 564 conservative votes or 13% of the total active registered conservatives n the district.

Quinn won his first election to the Assembly in 2004 winning 50% of the vote on the R line and a self-created line in a 3-way race. He defeated a "D" and a third candidate running on the "C" and "I" lines.

Ugh and ugh (4.00 / 1)
This reminds me of how disappointed I was when Sean Cooney dropped out and we were stuck with this pile of garbage choices.

Same here. (4.00 / 1)
If this had been Sean Cooney taking us into November, it would have been party time. Now we've got a new Pigeonite.

I liked Sean (0.00 / 0)
I used to work with him on campaigns a few years back. He's definitely solidly a Sam Hoyt guy, which I thought might have raised him a little more money, but in the end, Sam needed nearly everything he raised for himself, just squeaking by (again).
