Lee Zeldin supporters wave Confederate flags, make obscene gestures at "Women for Foley" rally

I'm not sure what the flag with stars in the top photo is (4.00 / 1)

but the Confederate battle flag is more like an X than like a +.  I thought it might be the Arizona state flag, but it's not that either.

Seems to go with the Hulk Hogan impersonator.

but I think we can safely say that this gentleman is not waving the flag of brotherly love or unity here. he's waving something that looks like, and could quite possibly be a confederate flag of some obscure sort or other and he's doing so on purpose. hell, he may not even know what flag he's waving, but I think the intent is rather clear.

gross.

What this has to do with women specifically (4.00 / 2)

Since the first part of my post at 16% and Rising is just explaining your photograph, thought I'd just share the part that isn't already covered here.

What you may be less familiar with is the link between this call for secession and attempts to deny a woman's right to choose.  Anti-choice extremists have been attempting to introduce resolutions or laws at the state level that claim that the state, under the 10th Amendment, does not have to abide by certain federal laws, including Roe v. Wade.

Also fun - when I was googling the flag to find out more about it, I found a SC group advocating for seceding again - and this is one of the flags they use at their rallies.

that i'm shocked. one often finds such sentiments about the Union and a desire to subjugate women in the same places.

are quite extreme, so none of this is a surprise.

Check out the diary/comments part of the Conservative Society for Action (the big Suffolk group).

Here's a taste from their leader, Stephen Flanigan -- his "Declaration of War!":

The health care bill cannot stand. This must become the constitutional crisis we've been looking for.

That was written in early June, a few weeks later CSA held what they call the first town hall protest last year, targeting Tim Bishop, NY-1.

It was rude, loud and angry, and inspired others last year.
