From the Dept of Stuff You Just Can't Make Up, New York's junior Senator and Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton's contest to pick her campaign theme song is finally over. A nation awaits the verdict of those who voted for the song that will follow the campaign from now until victory. Or something. And the winner is...

...a Canadian. A really, really bad Canadian. The supporters of Hillary, Inc. have chosen "You and I" by Canuck schlock queen Celine Dion as her campaign theme song.

No, really.

Um, what's wrong with truly terrible music by honest to god, red blooded Americans?

Hillary's Campaign Song Originally Written For...Air Canada Ad

Okay, it turns out there's a bit of a backstory to the Celine Dion song "You and I," which has just been chosen as Hillary's campaign song. And it probably won't mollify anyone who thinks the choice was less than inspirational.
The song was originally written for...an ad campaign for Air Canada.

Really.

But yeah, seriously, they flogged this song contest for weeks seemingly and this is the winner? Weak.

Celine Dion? Not what I would have expected. I wonder if there's an American Idol-Sanjaya element to this.

Either way, the contest has definitely been a boon of publicity, and the video announcing the winning song is hilarious.

The Video Really Is Great (0.00 / 0)

but my problem with the song (and the artist) is that it's just so . . . schlocky. Not to mention that I can't be the only one who associates it with commercials for Air Canada, which may not be the best thing when running for the American presidency.

As has been pointed out to me, however, I really liked the use of "Don't Stop" for Bill in 1992, and Christine McVie isn't exactly American.
