Hall concedes (0.00 / 0)
OK, I've never liked Hall. As a passionate believer in rock and roll, his old career made me want to puke every time I thought of it - I mean, if anyone justified the Sex Pistols, it was Orleans. And when he won the primary in 2006, I was pissed. Ben Shuldiner was a far superior candidate, and at least one other of the five was better. But Hall won, largely by getting the backing of the anti-woman, anti-gay leaders of Kiryas Joel. He was OK during his tenure - always cautious, but never actually undercutting the liberal agenda too much. But he never managed to make himself a force the way Maurice Hinchey did in his district.

I used to be involved with Orange County Democratic Party politics, but after 2006 I was totally disillusioned - I realized that going anywhere there would require far too much time spent dealing with people whom I viscerally loathed. Had I kept up with the bullshit, I'd start tonight laying the groundwork for a 2012 run. But like Ben Shuldiner, just because I was the smart, young, progressive guy wouldn't mean that I'd get the support from the creeps who control the votes.
