NY-26: Cons, Feeling the Heat, Bring Out The Big Guns

I guess that PPP/DailyKos poll showing a lead outside the MoE for Democrat Kathy Hochul really put the fear of God into some Corporate Con hearts yesterday. Today we learn that Karl Rove's American Crossroads is dropping a whopping $650K in TV ads touting heiress Jane Corwin between now and the election, a scant two weeks away. That's a shit ton of money in that market over 14 days.

Crossroads Carpet Bombs NY 26

Amid fresh concerns over the tightening special election in New York's 26th District, American Crossroads has purchased $650,000 worth of television time on behalf of Republican Jane Corwin, according to three Democratic sources tracking ad buys in the district.

The ads will begin running Wednesday and last through the day of the special election, May 24. An American Crossroads official confirmed the ad buy.

The conservative advocacy group, which spent more than $70 million on independent expenditures in last year's midterms, had been weighing involving itself in the race, as Corwin has lost ground to Democrat Kathy Hochul and a third-party candidate running under the Tea Party label, Jack Davis.

Yeah, they are sweating this one bigtime, folks. There's now way that Rove and his moneymen ever thought a month ago that they would have to spend this kind of cash to protect NY-26.

Daily Kos (4.00 / 2)
After making a small (and believe me it's small)donation to Kathy's campaign I also wrote a Diary on her behalf on Daily Kos asking for donations and help.  Hope it helps.

Rosalie's diary can be found here.  I've tipped, rec'ed, and added the NY-26 tag for you :-)

I just saw Chris Matthews interview Ms. Hochul as part of a segment covering the race on Hardball.  It's slowly becoming one of those main stories on MSNBC, so by weeks' end it will be a national story on all networks.

TAP got the framing right weeks ago, though: the race is a referendum on the Republican budget plan.

Keep up the good work out there!

Also, there is a Diary by someone named Mille on the same subject which was posted after I did mine.  I missed Hochul on Chris Mathews but I Rachel had another report about this race tonight and I think Ed Schultz plans to say something too.  I don't know about McDonnell, I was at my monthly Eating Liberally Dinner here in Brooklyn when his show aired but will catch it later.  Hochul sounded very sincere when speaking the Mathews and very knowledgable.

Boehner/Corwin (0.00 / 0)
I have to admit I haven't been watching much TV during this campaign.  But last night I watched the 11 PM News on WGRZ Buffalo - not a single mention of Boehner's visit that I was able to hear, and certainly no video.  Interesting, because this should have been a big roll-out for Corwin.  The newspaper reported that Boehner was all about taxes, but not a single mention of Medicare.  Further evidence that they are trying to hide from the mess they've created.

There are GOTV efforts for Hochul in all counties of the district this weekend, Greece, Medina, Brockport and Batavia are the places I know about where door-to-door work is happening, phone-banking at Monroe County Dem HQ, and I am sure that Erie and Niagara are also very active.

Today's reader poll in the on-line news "The Batavian" has Hochul in the lead for the first time.  A few days ago it was Davis.  The Batavian usually trends Republican/Libertarian in news coverage and comments, so I find this VERY interesting, and definitely not a happy sign for the Corwin camp.

After blasting Hochul for weeks for being a Pelosi Democrat, Corwin is even more so a Boehner/Rove Republican, and now there's the money trail to prove it!

We can win this one, folks!
