Schneiderman Won't Back Down, Vows 'Full Investigation' Into Banks

by: phillip anderson

Wed Aug 24, 2011 at 15:41:18 PM EDT

A day after being dumped by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller from the group of AGs negotiating a settlement of sorts with the very banks who blew up the global economy, Eric Schneiderman has come out swinging. In an email to supporters this afternoon titled "Standing Up For You,", Schneiderman vows to not back down and promises a "full investigation into the misconduct that led to the collapse of America's housing market."

He continues, "Our ongoing investigation into the housing crisis cannot be shut down to accommodate efforts to settle quickly and give banks and others broad immunity from further legal action. "

Here's the full text of Schneiderman's email:

You might have been following the latest developments related to the national settlement of the mortgage probe, including this story in today's Huffington Post about our tough fight for a comprehensive resolution to this crisis.

Let me tell you directly: I am deeply committed to pursuing a full investigation into the misconduct that led to the collapse of America's housing market, and to seeking a resolution that gives homeowners meaningful relief, allows the housing market to begin to recover, and gets our economy moving again.

Our ongoing investigation into the housing crisis cannot be shut down to accommodate efforts to settle quickly and give banks and others broad immunity from further legal action. If you have any thoughts or concerns about this critical issue, please contact me at 1-800-771-7755, or send a message via Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you for your support,

Eric T. Schneiderman
Attorney General

Good. (0.00 / 0)
I confess I was not pleased when Schneiderman won the AG nomination, as I felt he was too cozy with the corrupt Democratic leadership in the Senate.

However, he's really proving himself here. Godspeed.

Wow did you get that wrong! (0.00 / 0)
Eric Schneiderman was never "cozy" with Democratic leadership when Dems (theoretically) had the majority. He was the deputy minority leader through 2006 under David Paterson, but that was as much because he was willing to buck leadership as work with it (possibly why he didn't become the Dem. leader when Paterson became LG).

That being said, Schneiderman worked with whoever he had to work with to try to get things done.

Oh yeah -- he also stepped up to chair the committee whose investigation led to Hiram Monserrate's expulsion, when many others didn't dare touch that issue with a ten-foot pole.

Fortunately, you've seen the light and are quickly becoming a Schneiderman fan. Welcome to the club.

Welcome to the club (0.00 / 0)
Now, I don't disagree with any of the good defenses of the good Attorney General that you just gave.

What worries me is your enthusiasm.  "Welcome to the club" implies that a club is forming in support of this one.  I'm reluctant to go that far in my own praises, even if I do like what he's doing.

There are some good lyrics from the opening number of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' when Judas sings to Jesus "You've begun to matter more than the things you saaaaaaaaaay!"

I can see this happening here with Scheiderman, near the beginning of his state-wide career.  Yes, he deserves to be complemented and supported in this endeavor.  But after all these hope-instilling Democrats built us up only to cut us down, like Obummer (Obanker?), I'm very reluctant to join any club or cult of personality around anybody, no matter how much good they are doing.

That being said, if he is sincere and quells mine and Rufus's shared concern, then he'd be a fantastic chocie to primary this Cuomo DINOsaur out of the Governor's mansion.
