Fun with Numbers

Well, the poll says some of what you think it does, but not all. You're obviously spinning hard here. Comparing Gillibrand's and Paterson's positive without looking at their negatives (Paterson's are only about 30 points higher than Kirsten's) is just silly and misleading.
The showing against Pataki is disappointing, but we're missing a key variable: what would Maloney's be? I have a feeling that we have some very serious anti-incumbent sentiment brewing, and that this sentiment could tar the whole Democratic Party as the party with the overwhelming balance of power. Has anyone seen numbers for generic republicans versus generic democrats? So, we'll see how things develop, and we are going to see a primary in the Senate, and don't discount the Republicans against any candidate.

... to the likes of George Elmer Pataki by about 8 points, which is pretty pathetic.
But hey, if Gillibrand's blindly loyal supporters just keep saying that she's got a lock on the race, maybe it will become true...
... even though that same smug "I'm inevitable" attitude only hurt Hillary Clinton's chances in the 2008 race.

if you want to destroy your credibility permanently

This is precisely how to do it. If you want to call that legal, you're welcome to fight it in the courts, but you'll be mocked over and over and over and over...
Like I said - Open Government, meet Fiction Government. No one else in New York outside of the Democratic Caucus and those in its employ have signed on to this particular storyline, and if they do so, it's completely at their peril.
The sad part for me is that this breaks the web site's story pretty badly.
Good luck righting the ship! You, uh, need it.

What's wrong with democracy?

Why should we not have a primary here? I find this argument very disturbing.
An unelected Senator appointed by an unelected Governor and we should just role over and accept the person who will represent 20 million people? Without so much as an election? Why?
I am surprised to see such a "fall-in-line-behind-the party-leaders" tendency here at TAP. (That is, not the posting itself - as it is clearly a part our party's conversation today - but rather the widespread support). I never thought of this community as one that discourages primaries.
If you support Gillibrand, vote for her, campaign for her, donate to her. Don't try and bully legitimate candidates out of the race.

...i can't imagine how the "fast roll call" can be sold to voters as "your representatives acting in your best interests".
as other commenters have noted, this might be legal--but it stinks to high heaven, and voters will probably smell the ugly way too easily for the good of incumbents.

Simon, A couple of things

Today that surrealism kicked up a notch. The official Senate blog had been sticking to announcements and legal documents, even if most of these did seem to come from the Democratic leadership. The latest piece, though, is laughable:

First...we have posted ALL legal documents and announcements. If there are more Dems, that's because they have submitted more.
Second...whether you think the quorum was real or not, it doesn't matter. It was. Period. According to Senate rules, Padavan was there and appropriately counted. Intent has nothing to do with it. That is the way the Senate has operated for hundreds of years.
"I'm sorry, officer, I didn't mean to run that light and crash into the bus. I was going for coffee"
"Oh, okay, no problem. We won't count the accident since you were only going for coffee and obviously didn't mean it."
And, conversely, the June 8th sideshow certainly wasn't legal according to the rules of the Senate.
Now, if you want to make the argument that the rules of the Senate are crazy, then that's one thing, and if you want to make the argument that following them is unimportant...well that's another. BUT, since the rules are all that we have to abide by, then, I'll stick with them.
And, the ends to this, I might add, was to actually pass bills that millions of New Yorkers depend upon...that would have passed 62-0 under normal circumstances. They passed necessary legislation that was due to expire, not push an ideological agenda through.
The Power for Jobs extender alone protects over 250,000 jobs. Now, if you want to call that frivolous, Go talk to the quarter million families whose paychecks are now threatened and tell them that the Democrats are playing games.
People still despise him for his role in passing vacancy decontrol.
Garodnick has a good shot. He's popular, young, smart and already has a pretty big war chest. I also happen to love Liz Krueger, but hear that her chances are slimmer because she's not as close to Maloney's operation as others you mention. You might consider putting Eva Moskowitz on your list, too. She went to Stuyvesant High School and was pretty popular with constituents in Maloney's district when she was their city councilwoman...
