This belongs to you. Take it back...

I want YOU to meet Eliot Spitzer.

(Just in case you didn't already know, Larry once again proves that he is one of the coolest folks in the whole freakin' world. - promoted by lipris)

I am so bummed that I won't be able to make the fundraiser for Craig Johnson next Thursday, February 1st, in Manhattan.  So I want you to attend for me.  I'm willing to "sponsor" up to five TAP participants who want to go the event but who aren't in a position to contribute themselves.

This event is important because we need to take the State Senate from the Republicans, we need non-Republican dominated redistricting for the next census, and because we (the grassroots) need to impress the state party with our ability to turn out people to work for change.

Read on for more. . .

LarryInNYC :: I want YOU to meet Eliot Spitzer.
Here's the deal.  I'll make a contribution of $50 for each person who wants to go.  To qualify you must:

1. Be a member of The Albany Project (not hard, since you're reading about it here -- but if you're not a member, sign up now).

2. You have to identify yourself at the fundraiser as being a TAP member.

3. You have to commit to taking at least one additional action to help elect Craig Johnson.  That can be making a call to one or more friends or relatives in the district to turn them out (this will be a low turnout election), it can be canvassing or phone banking in the district, or it can be making your own contribution, no matter how small, to the cause.

For all of the above, I'll happily take your word.  If you are interested, either respond below with as much of your name as you want me to include on the invitee list, or email me at larrylustig at yahoo you-know-what.

And don't forget to tell Eliot I said "hi".

i'm speechless, larry. (4.00 / 5)
you rock so hard it's sick.

seriously. we just aren't worthy.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

Yeah. . . (4.00 / 7)
I rock so hard that I decided to organize this whole thing on a week's notice and turn out a few hundred people -- and Eliot Spitzer -- to help turn the state senate blue.

Oh wait.  That was you!

Larry is definitely awesome (4.00 / 4)
I also won't be able to make it but I hope everyone that does has a great time, and add my name to Larry's to say hi to Eliot.

Spitzer and Larry rock!

LarryInNYC is our TAPper of the Month! (4.00 / 4)
You so rock, my man!

We've got some work ahead of us.

WOW! (4.00 / 1)
That is so cool, Larry. Too bad the fundraiser if mid-week or I would be there in a heart beat.

Especially since I have a couch to crash on in NYC now that my kid moved there.

What a long, strange trip it's been.

You totally rock! (0.00 / 0)
I really wish I could be there... but I'll attend the cyberspace version of it, for sure.

Help support the Halfmoon Democrats! Every little bit helps.

To be honest... (4.00 / 3)
I wonder how many on-the-bubble Democrats would feel like giving to the state party, when Terry McAuliffe is up in Syracuse making some asinine statements.

There is a discussion on Daily Kos about this; and I think it's worth talking about.

http://www.dailykos....

this was quite a discussion (4.00 / 2)
as we were putting this thing together. the state party very much wanted the money to go through them and we told them that a pretty sizeable portion of the netroots would certainly prefer to bypass them and give directly to craig's campaign. to my great surprise, they immediately acknowledged that they understood this and were very open to the idea of allowing those who so choose to donate directly to the candidate. one of the things that is so promising to me about this event and how it came about, is that the state party recognizes that there is a definite and discernible degree of antipathy and distrust between the net/grassroots and the party establishment and they are looking to do whatever they can to ameliorate this gulf. besides this being a venture to raise funds for a hugely important race, they are also looking at this as an opportunity to build trust and demonstrate some basic competence.

i understand your concerns and share them for the most part. lord knows i have been rather hard on the state party around here. but, i'm also pretty excited about the potential for building some pretty powerful and effective relationships not only between the netroots and the state party establishment, but also amongst the NY netroots themselves.

i give a lot of credit to our new co-chair of the state party, dave pollak. he "gets it". he knows that there is much mending of fences and building of bridges to be done and he seems more than willing to do the work necessary to make that happen.

oh, and glad to see ya here, NYCO!

TODAY is day one. It always is.

I have been SO waiting ... (0.00 / 0)
... for our netroots groups to forge strong bonds.

I think we have to get out of any "cult of personality" and go for the big blue picture.

dave pollak very cool dude.

Do you actually get to meet Spitzer at this thing? (4.00 / 3)
Or do you have to be a VIP person?

i certainly hope that everyone at the event (4.00 / 2)
who wishes to will get a chance to shake the governor's hand and say hello. there is some sort of VIP thing before the event. (i wasn't part of planning that, so i'm a bit sketchy on the details) but, after that it will be a whole bunch of people in a bar with the guv. it's not a huge place either. in fact, the one impediment folks may find to meeting the governor may be just finding a way across the room as it's sure to be packed.

that said, shaking the man's hand is free.

hope to see ya there!

TODAY is day one. It always is.

[ Parent ]
Yeah usually at events like this... (4.00 / 2)
You tend to be able to get handshakes and photos much more readily than usual.
I'm sure the politicians in attendance are more then willing to give a handshake and a greeting.

--MrMacMan

P.S. even if the place is packed (and this event probably isn't going to be) your more then likely to bump into many politicians you have heard of and wish to meet. (I meet Rep. Hagel at one of these along with Silver and Senator Schumer )

The venue (Prey) (4.00 / 2)
is pretty small -- your typical storefront bar.  If there's any kind of crowd at all it will actually be pretty difficult not to come into fairly intimate contact with most of the people there.

I also heard a rumor that up to fifteen sitting state senators will be there.

PS: Rob is one of my guests!  Still two places left.

fundraiser (4.00 / 1)
I would like to attend if possible.  I have sent you an email.  Thanks for your consideration.
