| Friday at the press conference where the Monroe County Democratic Committee endorsed Jon Powers, there was a series of questions at the end of the press conference that were a bit questionable.
The series of questions about David Bellavia's remarks came from WHEC-TV News 10 NBC reporter Ray Levato. A TAP reader decided that they would contact Levato about his line of questioning. Here is the response Levato gave one of our readers:
They were confused by my question. He knew I was asking about his "mulligan" comment. Powers may be a veteran but he apparently is a politician too.
By saying the mulligan comment, I feel he was jumping on the racial bandwagon that continues to divide this country.
Bellavia, whom I've never met, was clearly referring to a war hero vs. a sports hero. Didn't you get that?
Thanks for writing.
Ray L.
Let me start by saying as a blogger, I get heat from some traditionalists that bloggers just steal from media reports and are too opinionated to be considered serious journalists.
So here we have a real journalist who asked a set of questions based on his beliefs. To say things like "apparently he is a politician too" injects his own beliefs into that line of questioning which isn't what a reporter is supposed to do. Remember "we report, you decide?" Might be a slogan of a bad news network, but it is what news reporters should be doing.
