All Hands On Deck, Y'all. Let's Send Robert To Austin!

Many of you may know this, but many of you may not. This site had an intern this spring, our own Robert Harding. Robert has busted his tail all year keeping this site running while I've been working on some other stuff and trying to keep the dog fed. (Which, to be honest, has not been easy) But Robert has more than picked up the slack. He's made this a better, more useful and more effective site.

Robert was the one who covered the Democratic Rural Conference for us. Robert put together this great guide to Senate races to watch this fall. While it's true that David Sirota contacted us both about doing a book chat yesterday, it was Robert that that did all the heavy lifting and made it happen.

Which brings me to this. Democracy For America is having a competition for scholarships to Netroots Nation in Austin, TX. They are going to pay for registration to the convention as well as lodging for the winners. It's a fantastic program and I really can't think of anyone more deserving of one of these scholarships than our own tireless boy wonder, Robert Harding.

Here's how YOU can help send Robert to Austin. Vote for him. Then get your family and friends to vote for him. Then send the link to your lists and ask those folks to vote for Robert. If you or your friends aren't currently registered with DFA, you'll have to sign up. It takes 30 seconds. Will you then get email from DFA? Sure, but it's good email, the kind you'll want to read. Just bite the bullet, register and then vote for Robert. It's easy and it is quite literally the least we can do for the guy who has busted his ass all year for us while also carrying a full load at school. (He graduates this month, btw.)

Robert currently has 22 "supporters" listed on his page. That number needs to grow. Can we get him 50 supporters by the end of the day? 100?

Let's just do our best. Vote for Robert and get everyone you know to vote for him as well. I'll keep a running tally of supporters here until we win this thing for him.

Let's send Robert to Netroots Nation, y'all!

Current Supporter Count: 22 23 24 26 27 28 30 31 33

go vote for Robert right now, k?

TODAY is day one. It always is.

I'm in (4.00 / 3)
I hear Austin is a great place for young people to visit, and I would say we should all pitch in and try and send him just for that.... but, naw, it is, in fact, a chance for Robert to get next-step professional development, and a great opportunity for him to hone his very substantial skills.

I recently had a conversation with an experienced political campaign communications specialist who has just started reading TAP this spring.  When I explained to him that Robert had just graduated college, he was stunned, and said "But, he writes so well!"  So, the way I figure it is: Robert deserves it, and they deserve Robert.

Do it now while you are thinking of-- doesn't take long, and DFA did not fill up my inbox just because I signed into the site.

i was talking to my mom on the phone and she said to me, "tell robert i think he's a great writer and that i read everything he writes." when i told her that he had not yet graduated from college, she replied "you're kidding."

speaking of professional development, he's on the market, folks. i'm trying to get him a job as we speak. someone out there is going to get a fantastic addition to their efforts. the kid effin' rocks.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

Jobs in NY.... (0.00 / 0)
I'd say get him a job in NY, but, unfortunately, some of those don't seem to necessarily be decided on merit-- as per this Our loss.  Hope he can stay a NYer.

Thanks Robinia... (4.00 / 2)
For your kind words.

Without people like Robinia, there is no me. Our readers here at TAP are the best. I have been in many debates (and some feuds) with them, but we are all here with the same goals and the same principles.

Robinia and I have had our debates, but that only has made me a better writer. Bouncing ideas off another person is very beneficial and I hope it has been just as rewarding for you as it has been for me.

Thanks Phillip (4.00 / 3)
Kind words all around. I am happy to call TAP my blogging home and I have learned a lot about the rest of the state in the process.

As Phillip said, this would pay for lodging and my registration for Netroots Nation. The catch is this: The top vote-getter wins. After that, it is like NCAA Tournament. So think of it as one "automatic" bid and at least eight "at-large" bids. If you aren't the top vote-getter, they could pick anyone.

I wrote why I need this scholarship on my application page. Money is certainly an issue. Being a recent college graduate (officially finishing up my degree this summer) and jobless (for now) I don't have the money to go. I could cover transportation costs and food costs, but definitely registration, lodging, etc.

While money is my number one obstacle, I have been eager to go to Netroots Nation since last summer, when I took part in YearlyKos via Second Life (YKSL, as it was known). This is a convention where I will interact with some cool people and learn a lot along the way.

Plus, Phillip has told me how great Austin is. I'm ready to go. I just need your help.

Thanks for everything,

Robert

Okay. (4.00 / 2)
I don't have an account there, but that can be remedied. Robert definitely deserves to go.

Done. (4.00 / 2)
Looks like you're up to 33, now.
