aren't volunteers calling in (4.00 / 2)
with informal results from polling places? the suspense is too much....

I know poll watchers have taken the ED's (4.00 / 2)
I know this since Great Neck usually does this on elections.

Also because my dad totaled the votes from the local polling station which represented 3 ED's. all positive stuff.

-- MrMacMan

[ Parent ]
poll watcher ed counts (0.00 / 0)
the numbers the pollwatchers get are the same results as the unofficial election results posted by the BoE.  pollwatchers by law are allowed to check the machines the same way the election poll workers are

the BoE tends to be faster though.  I couldn't say why, but that's how it's been on the elections I've worked on

[ Parent ]
Have a 4 (0.00 / 0)

First results (4.00 / 2)
Johnson - 481
O'Connell - 269

Are Your Results Figures (4.00 / 2)
coming straight from a particular source to campaign headquarters, or are you reliant on the Nassau County Board of Elections website?

I'll hold off on what my predictions had been until a bit later (only so as to not jinx anything, not to massage the numbers), but in the meantime, please make sure that everyone who was out in the cold this evening at least has an Irish Coffee [insert hot beverage containing alcohol and caffeine here] or two

And we are off... (0.00 / 0)
Nothing left to do but wait...and hope

WOOOO HOOOOO!!! (0.00 / 0)
Good numbers to start. As long as they keep showing up like that we're happy, happy, happy.

REBOOTNY.org - it is time to Reboot the New York State Senate!

Misdeeds documented? (0.00 / 0)
Hoping there's some visual evidence if needed.
Even if NOT NEEDED, wrongdoings should be brought to light!

My heart (0.00 / 0)
just burst out of my chest and is hanging on by a thread. I like suspense as much as the next guy or gal, but arrrggghhhh.

I can only hit the "reload" icon so many times on my browser!!!! (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
that's why (4.00 / 2)
I got the 'Reload Every' add-on for firefox.

[ Parent ]
hey! fellow carpetbagger! (0.00 / 0)
How is South Jersey treating you?

[ Parent ]
it's great (4.00 / 1)
I just wish we could get someone to run against LoBiondo!

I grew up in this district, so it's interesting to follow this race.

[ Parent ]
Calm Down (4.00 / 1)
This is far from over

I agree. (4.00 / 2)
My dad was a poll watcher for the ED's 31, 32, 33.
All the ED's went easily for craig. (they should have based on past performance).

But those are still votes that are probably not counted yet in the results so.

Wait and see.

-- MrMacMan

[ Parent ]
What village these in? n/t (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Aaargh...anybody know where are these precincts?? (0.00 / 0)

nope (0.00 / 0)
no idea at all. our source at BOE has disappeared.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

[ Parent ]
That's better! (4.00 / 1)
My prediction: it wont even be that close.  Johnson by at least 10%

Prepare to watch the final stake being driven into the black heart of the state GOP!!!!

Bruno yes, state GOP no (0.00 / 0)
those are only rumors that there will be party switchers.  Plus even if senators do switch they will just be turncoats that can't be trusted

[ Parent ]
turncoats, yes. trusted? we have to see. (4.00 / 2)
I mean its all about the people.

Do they just want to stay in power or were they just scared to leave the republicans in the first place?

-- MrMacMan

[ Parent ]
Isn't Bruno all that's left of the state GOP? (0.00 / 0)
If I had to bet, I'd say we get 2 party switchers out of this victory

[ Parent ]
Who's on our team now? (0.00 / 0)
Robach?
Morahan?
Hannon?
Padavan?
Lanza???

[ Parent ]
Check Results Again (4.00 / 3)

Johnson 6272
O'Connell 4557

We're pulling away!

That's some good shit there for the WFP (4.00 / 3)
They ain't s'posed to be beating out the I's and C's like that!

WFP has been busting ass (4.00 / 2)
out here in the 7th.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

[ Parent ]
Well in NY 3rd parties are awesome. (0.00 / 0)
Since they get tallied up with the main candidate at the end.

Gotta love cross-endorsements of 3rd parties onto other candidates.

WFP has been good to NY (besides some weird endorsements for judges and such).

-- MrMacMan

[ Parent ]
hey man, you don't need to sell me on ballot fusion! (0.00 / 0)
I'm a believer!

WFP at 3.6%, Turnout on pace for >37,000.

Silly operatives & insiders, they always underestimate the turnout in these races by at least 50%, it happened in South Dakota, it happened in Kentucky, and it's happening again here.

[ Parent ]
I wouldn't be too hard on them (0.00 / 0)
Usually turnout is low in special elections. In this particular one the market was saturated with commercials and volunteers so its not a surprise turnout is higher than expected.

[ Parent ]
Saturated Is Probably an Understatement (0.00 / 0)
Something on the order of $5 million was spent on this race, which really only got under way three weeks ago.  Considering the time involved and the size of the district, this is probably the most expensive race in U.S. election history, at any level (approximately $35 per voter, per week).

[ Parent ]
mea culpa, mea maxima culpa... (0.00 / 0)
I was off by a factor of 2; 20,000 was actually a number I heard "to win"; so that puts them pretty darn close.

Turnout still above expected, though!

[ Parent ]
I definitely underestimated turnout (4.00 / 1)
pretty impressive that cold weather didn't play a part in this

It looks like the geniuses with the crystal balls were wrong about turnout... (0.00 / 0)
Already over 10,000; if those numbers keep rollin in like that we'll be at 33k when the night is over.

yup (0.00 / 0)

TODAY is day one. It always is.

How we doing (4.00 / 2)
things look good.  what do the pros think?  Are we in good shape?

things look good.

TODAY is day one. It always is.

[ Parent ]

Don't want to count chickens yet, but. . .

How big would this be for Spitzer, to win this one.  He's going to be unstoppable.

[ Parent ]
Turnout projection of 20,000 exceeded before 50% of precincts in. (4.00 / 1)
Can't say I'm surprised.  Now on pace for over 40,000.

*correction* (0.00 / 0)
I think 20,000 votes was the number to win; even then, the predictions would have been 25% short.

[ Parent ]
Nice, nice (0.00 / 0)
sites moving a little slowly too. Wonder what the hit rate looks like. I've always said you aren't operating systems programmer until you've brought a system to its knees. Likewise, you aren't a worthwhile political website until you've been overloaded on election night.

Go Craig Johnson!

My only guess (4.00 / 1)
is that the numbers that just came in were from O'Connell's base - East Williston.

[ Parent ]
Ack! (0.00 / 0)
AM I wrong, or are we now losing.  WTF -- this would really suck.

as of 10:11 we are losing (0.00 / 0)

There's still time

31 EDS to go (0.00 / 0)
Only 700 votes apart.

Could we have a recount situation here?

Quick somebody check the laws here! (0.00 / 0)

Even if the last dozen precincts are her best dozen precincts, there's no way she wins. (4.00 / 1)
200 margin per precinct is just too much to overcome.

I'm calling this for Craig Johnson!

We are taking down the site! (0.00 / 0)
There is some serious traffic here, the servers are unusually slow tonight. You want to enlightnen us with the traffic that you got tonight guys?

Game, Set, Match Craig Johnson (4.00 / 2)
Game, Set, Match The 7th Senate District.  Craig Johnson will represent you in Albany with the same energy he brought to the Nassau County Legislature.
Game, Set, Match Governor Spitzer.  You went all-in, Joe Bruno called you, and you had the nuts.
Game, Set, Match The Albany Project.  Your first election will always be special.
Game, Set, Match New York Democrats.  You are 33% closer to taking something you haven't had in years.
Game, Set, Match Working Families Party.  You competed with the other two lines in a district where they vastly outnumber you in registrations, and your volunteer effort helped us carry the day.
Game, Set, Match the grassroots in New York.  Never has a statewide movement so effectively unified between a single candidate.
Game, Set, Match the labor movement.  You have one more voice in Albany to stand up for workers rights.
Game, Set, Match NARAL pro choice New York and the pro-choice movement.  A woman's right to choose will not depend on the weather in New York State.
Game, Set, Match stem cell research.  Science will not be held hostage by religious extremists in New York State.
Game, Set, Match Empire State Pride, Stonewall Dems, and HRC.  Despite the Conservative mailer, you are one step closer to marriage equality in NY.
Game, Set, Match reform in New York State.  Three men in a room is just two men from being history.
Game, Set, Match Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hall and Mike Arcuri.  If you make it to 2010, you will be safe.

Joe Bruno, checkmate.  Bring on Dean Skelos.

Apologies only for mixing my metaphors.
