NY-26: Jack Davis' New Totally Horrific Jingle

by: phillip anderson

Tue Jul 29, 2008 at 14:47:30 PM EDT

Wow. If you thought the faux country Brooks and Dunn ripoff, "Brand New Man" was awful, wait until you hear crazy Jack Davis' new radio jingle, a ripoff of the 1968 bubblegum pop classic "Build Me Up Buttercup". It's called, and I'm not making this up, "Who's Gonna Clean it Up?". It's an act of cultural ghoulism that is every bit as horrific as you probably imagine.

SINGER: Who's going to clean it up, (clean it up) politics, baby, Jack Davis will, (Davis will) on Capitol Hill And then best of all (best of all) he'll take the job for just a buck a year, so the message is clear, We need Jack (we need Jack) as our Congressman, darlin' Let's send him to Washington And let Jack clean it up (clean it up) the government, he'll get it done!

FEMALE Voice Over: Let's clean up government from special interest money by voting for Jack Davis, a successful businessman with a lifetime of creating jobs and common sense solutions. Let's say "no" to politics as usual and "yes" to an independent voice for Western New York. That's Jack Davis!

SINGER: We need Jack (we need Jack) as our Congressman, darlin' Let's send him to Washington And let Jack clean it up (clean it up) the government, he'll get it done!

You just can't make stuff like this up.

Does anyone (0.00 / 0)
know if Davis' claim to take a one dollar salary, can he do that?  I mean how does that work?  Is he going to donate the rest of the salary to charity like CHris Carney did in Pennsylvania?

I think that would be the only way to do it (0.00 / 0)
He can't just walk into Congress and tell them what he wants to make, whether that's $1 or $1 million. He can, however, donate the money.

He used that as a ploy in 2006 and it didn't work. If you ask the average voter, they probably can't tell you how much a congressman or senator makes.

The better question here is who Davis gets to sing these jingles. What bar lost their opening act?

Support our troops, not the war.

Wow (4.00 / 2)
I don't think Davis has a clue about who actually turns out in September primaries.

Stunt (4.00 / 1)
I don't get this as anything on Davis' part except as proof he can afford to forgo the standard salary.  To that I respond, "...and that means.....?".  Its the rare Congressman or Senator, if any, who takes the job for the money.  Yes,  some take it for less noble reasons than public service, such as prestige, power, or as a capper to a successful career in another field.  Like, say, business.  But, I'm wondering what salient point he's trying to make.  And why does he need that one dollar, anyway?

Don't judge other people by your own limitations.

HEY-- ROBERT (0.00 / 0)
Did your finger slip on the rating button?  Don't think you were looking for what you got there.... fix?

[ Parent ]
Fixed (0.00 / 0)
Yeah, meant to recommend Russ's post, not troll rate it.

My apologies Russ.

Support our troops, not the war.

If there was a pic icon... (0.00 / 0)
...I'd understand the troll rating.  I've been described as what Lurch and Fester's lovechild would look like.

Yeah (0.00 / 0)
I mean you can't get a cup of coffee for a dollar in DC can you?

Who cares? (0.00 / 0)
Davis isn't going to DC. So whether he can afford coffee or not is irrelevant.

Support our troops, not the war.

Mixed tape anyone? (0.00 / 0)
This is worse than "Brand New Man".  He has reached back to 1968 with this butchered rendition.  Shows how out of touch he is with current pop culture.  I hope that Colin Young and The Foundations are getting a little piece of the Jack Davis pie.  Although the rights to this one probably were sold off decades ago.

While Jack Davis is swift boating the endorsed candidate at least his "greatest hits" can bring some laughter.

Actually.... (0.00 / 0)
Primary voters are more likely to recall 1968 songs than pop culture-- they skew to older party regulars. However, we are not preparing the playlist for a party, but the primary for a political party.

I echo Historical Pessimist above: primary voters in elections for Congressional candidates aren't making their decisions based on radio ads, flyers, or, for crying out loud, jingles.  These are politically-aware people who think about things like didn't Davis lose twice already? and didn't he used to be a Republican? and isn't he opposed to campaign finance reform?

[ Parent ]
I'm dying (0.00 / 0)
If I had the expertise, a YouTube video of Jack and his jingles.

I'd worry about peeing myself.

Phillip gets the kudos of the day... (4.00 / 1)
...for the term "cultural ghoulism."

Lol!

Duh duh duh duh......Snap Snap (0.00 / 0)
Is this the Addams Family thread?

TV Ads (0.00 / 0)
He's up in Buffalo. I just watched his "Their money doesn't impress me, I won't take a dime" ad on the 5PM news.

WHY!? (4.00 / 1)
That is just flat-out annoying.  Why oh why did I click that link?  How the hell did he manage to become more annoying than last time?

He'd better not do this to the Beatles.  Please, GOD, do NOT let Jack do this to the Beatles!
