Anthony Seminerio

Paterson delcares a special -- uh, never mind

by: Dan Jacoby

Fri Aug 07, 2009 at 16:55:01 PM EDT

(Note: This info comes straight from Liz Benjamin at the Daily News; if you want a great place to get political news quickly, her blog is the place to go.)

When Queens Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio resigned from his seat in disgrace, the automatic result was an election to be held in November, with primaries in September.

That was fine, until it became clear that Albert Baldeo was running in the Democratic primary, upsetting the Queens County Democratic Party machine because they don't like him very much -- to say the least.  So they have been trying to get Governor Paterson to call a special election for September 15.

Why?  In a special election the party machine can pick their candidate, whereas the automatic process means whoever wins the primary is the nominee.

Today, Governor Paterson's office released a proclamation, signed by the governor, calling for a special election.  A few hours later, Governor Paterson said, in effect, "there ain't no such animal."  Apparently, Paterson's counsel Peter Kiernan is empowered to use the automark to fix the governor's signature on documents, and that's what they're saying is what happened.

We'll never know the whole truth; the only thing that's clear to me is that Governor Paterson's credibility just took another hit.

Corruption in NY

Corrupt Democrat #1

Assemblymen Anthony Seminerio is the type of person that needs to be booted out of Albany. He is exactly what is wrong with Albany, he is so useless, he was selling his votes cause he is unable to think for himself.

On tape, Seminerio was captured promising clients of his bogus "consulting firm" a full menu of insider's influence in return for payoffs.

"I am at your disposal. You tell me what you want. ... I'll take care of you," Seminerio told a hospital official in March. A month later, the assemblyman called another hospital executive to boast of his political access.

"That kind of relationship you can't buy for a million dollars," said Seminerio - who then reminded the official that he was owed a check.

With friends like him..... Supposedly, there are a few other assemblymen who may have been lobbying with the Tony Semz!!

Corrupt Democrat #2
Judge-elect Nora S. Anderson, how fitting, she should just like resign, or be recalled, or something. She is not fit to be a judge, especially in a Surrogate court. Nora was indicted for campaign finance fraud.

According to the NY Times

Nora S. Anderson, who last month won the election for Manhattan Surrogate's Court judge, was indicted Wednesday on charges that she concealed the source of $250,000 deposited into her campaign account to make it appear as though the payments came from herself.

As taxpayers we should be appalled. Can anyone help define what the process would be, to complain, and speak out against this person? She does not deserve a judgeship if you ask me.

And can anyone else tell me, whats with all the corruption lately?

SD-15: Serph Maltese Ally To Be Indicted For Fraud Today

by: phillip anderson

Wed Sep 10, 2008 at 11:43:27 AM EDT

It appears that Queens Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio, the biggest local Dem ally of Republican Senator Serph Maltese, was pulling a Joe Bruno by running a "consulting" firm out of his house that the feds believe crossed the line into criminality. Liz is reporting that the indictment(s) will be unsealed later today. She quotes a release from US Attorney Michael Garcia:

A press conference will be held today to announce the unsealing of a criminal complaint charging New York State Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio with honest services fraud relating to his alleged receipt of hundreds of thousands of dollars in corrupt payments from various entities with business before the State of New York.

Seminerio and Maltese are very tight and go way, way back. Liz notes:

NOTE: A reader points out that trouble for Seminerio, who has run in the past on both the Democrat and Conservative lines, won't be helpful to GOP Sen. Serphin Maltese, whose district overlaps with Seminerio's and who is a top target of the Democrats as they try to take over the Senate this fall.

Seminerio and Maltese have been close for many years, one Queens source called Seminerio "Serf's single most reliable Democratic supporter going back to when he was first elected."

AND, Seminerio is the second lawmaker close to Maltese who has been indicted in recent months (the first being his former aide and now-ex councilman, Dennis Gallagher, who pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct charges and gave up his seat as a result).

Things are already tough for Maltese. This isn't helping.
