NY-20: Senator Gillibrand and the Big Dog Stump For Scott Murphy

by: Todd Beeton

Mon Nov 01, 2010 at 14:14:27 PM EDT

I am proud to be Internet Director for Gillibrand For Senate - Todd

It was a homecoming for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, back in NY-20 stumping for Scott Murphy, just as she did last year prior to the special election to fill her seat in the House.

Yesterday they appeared together at the Country View Diner in Troy and today was a rally at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs with Bill Clinton. 1500 people gathered at 7:30 in the morning, greeted by a small but vocal crowd of Gibson supporters chanting "One More Day" and "Fire Scott Murphy!" But they only energized the crowd inside more, which cheered speaker after speaker rallying the voters in the room, making the case for Murphy as a strong advocate for Democratic reform policies and for moving the country forward.

NY-20: Bill Clinton will do election eve rally

by: devtob

Sat Oct 23, 2010 at 20:00:58 PM EDT

NY-20 Rep. Scott Murphy is in a tight race with Republican/tea party challenger Chris Gibson in the most Republican-by-registration district in the state.

As are several other NY Democratic Congressmen (John Hall in NY-19, Bill Owens in NY-23, Michael Arcuri in NY-24, Dan Maffei in NY-25) who have won longtime Republican districts in the last few elections.

Bill Clinton will be helping Murphy (and presumably some others) with a rally on the Monday before Election Day.

Which is great news, as New York is one of the major House battlegrounds this year, with hopeful Republicans looking to pick up a handful of seats here.

Details, below.

NY-Sen: Gillibrand, Maloney and Bill Clinton

by: devtob

Thu Jul 02, 2009 at 19:20:39 PM EDT

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), who is committed to challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in a primary next year, made a big deal at a Manhattan fund-raiser Tuesday night out of Bill Clinton hosting a Manhattan fund-raiser for her later this month.

Naturally, that "big deal" was promptly leaked to a friendly Manhattan news website, and went viral within a few hours, with Google News now linking to hundreds of similar, derivative stories when you search "maloney gillibrand clinton."

Despite the obvious implication that some readers will draw from Clinton appearing at a Maloney fund-raiser, he is not endorsing her.

Nor is he endorsing Gillibrand, for whom he did a fund-raiser in March.

Details, below.

Bill Clinton/John Kerry/Joe Biden Liveblog

by: Roatti

Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 21:35:02 PM EDT

(Bumped. - promoted by phillip anderson)

10:59: Obama says change starts not from the top-down, but from the bottom-up.  Amen.

10:57: The crowd is going nuts for Hillary

10:55: Obama enters!

10:53: A good, solid speech by Biden.  His main job was to give McCain a dressing down on foreign policy, which he did.

10:50: Obama was right to call for more troops in Afghanistan.

10:48: The real central front in the war on terror is Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Yes.

10:46: America needs more than a good soldier- we need a wise leader.

10:44: McCain voted 19 times against the minimum wage! the whoopass has begun.

10:43: Biden is calling McCain his friend.  You know the whoopass is aboout to start.

10:41: A job is more than a paycheck- it's the ability to look your children in the eye and tell them everything's gonna be all right.

10:39: George McCain freudian slip

10:36: Biden's talking about how his mom taught him to be tough- love it!

10:34: That slap at Cheney- HILARIOUS!

10:32: Biden gives well-deserved props to the Clintons.

10:28: Biden apparently called Milosevic a murderer to his face- that's friggin cool.

10:25: Biden's son, Delaware Atty General, Beau Biden is speaking and recapping the car accident tragedy his family suffered right before Biden was sworn in to his first Senate term.

10:21: Pelosi returns to introduce Biden.  The entire hall nominates him by acclamation.

10:19: Great speech by Duckworth- too bad she lost her congressional  race in '06, but she is now dedicating her life to helping veterans as the head of Veterans Affairs in Illinois.

10:13: Duckworth is hitting McShame on the his opposition to the GI bill.  Good for her- McShame's opposition to that bill is one of the most disgusting things he has ever done, in a long political career of disgusting acts.

10:09: Tammy Duckworth is now speaking- she's a double amputee (legs) who lost something like half the blood in her body when her helicopter was shot down in Iraq.

10:06: It always moves me to see pictures of our wounded troops- it's really hard to completely comprehend the huge sacrifices they make for our country

10:04: Our military is one of the most diverse institutions in the world, and we should all be damn proud of that.

10:01: Video tribute to the troops- I'm glad they got Steven Spielberg instead of his non-union Mexican equivalent, Senior Spielbergo.

9:59: Chet Edwards, Bush's congressman

9:49: Torture is not only morally repugnant, but militarilly ineffective-yes.

9:47: Claudia Kennedy- first female 3-star general

9:43: Obama's great uncle who liberated Buchenwald- that's what we call an American hero, folks.

9:41: I love this theme of showing how Obama has basically been dictating US foreign policy since Bush decided that the only way to do anything is to copy Obama's ideas.

9:39: "Years in the Senate or on this earth"- lol

9:38: Kerry hitting McSame on flip-flopping- sweet, sweet revenge!

9:36: Kerry says Obama will shut down gitmo. Good.

Bill Clinton's speech was pretty sweet!

More Reaction To The Death Of Tim Russert

by: robert.harding

Fri Jun 13, 2008 at 18:39:19 PM EDT

Reactions from all over on the passing of Tim Russert.

Statement from President and Mrs. Bush:

Laura and I are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Tim Russert. Those of us who knew and worked with Tim, his many friends, and the millions of Americans who loyally followed his career on the air will all miss him.

As the longest-serving host of the longest-running program in the history of television, he was an institution in both news and politics for more than two decades. Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman. He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it.

Most important, Tim was a proud son and father, and Laura and I offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Maureen, his son Luke, and the entire Russert family. We will keep them in our prayers.

Statement from Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton:

"We were stunned and deeply saddened to hear of the passing today of Tim Russert.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Maureen, his son Luke, his father who we all have come to know as Big Russ, his extended family and all of his many friends and colleagues at NBC who have suffered a tremendous loss.  Always true to his proud Buffalo roots, Tim had a love of public service and a dedication to journalism that rightfully earned him the respect and admiration of not only his colleagues but also those of us who had the privilege to go toe to toe with him.  In seeking answers to tough questions, he helped inform the American people and make our democracy stronger.  We join his friends, fans and loved ones in mourning his loss and celebrating his remarkable contribution to our nation."

Sen. Ted Kennedy:

"Tim Russert was a gentleman and giant, not just in politics and journalism, but in life. And through that life, he gave us all a model worth emulating.   With a reasoned voice, a sharp mind and a fair hand, Tim took the measure of every Washington official and all those that sought to be one.   He was a great journalist and an even better friend.  His passing is a tragic loss for us all, but especially for the family he loved so much.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Tim's wife Maureen and his son Luke."

More over the fold.
