As I wrote yesterday, we here in NY have a vital role to play in turning out the vote not only here at home, but around the country. Our phone calls to swing and even red states are freeing up resources on the ground to engage voters face to face. The Obama campaign in NY is looking for folks to place 200,000 calls TODAY and those calls don't make themselves. It's up to us.
You can find a phonebank by putting your zip code into that widget at the top right side of the page. You can also find one by clicking here. It's all hands on deck time, folks. Let's bring this sucker home.
Also, there's a party on Wed that folks in and near the city might want to check out. DFNYC is throwing a big one with special guest Jim Dean. DFNYC dynamo Heather Woodfield writes in an email:
Looking for a place to celebrate after the results have come in, after you have made many, many, many phone calls, and after you have polished off a lot of champagne?
Join me on Wednesday for...
DFNYC Linkup: The Election Party - After Party
President Obama's Going to Need Your Help...Find Out How.
Calling all Obama supporters! Join Democracy for NYC and Democracy for America coalitions groups across the country (via a live conference call) for our 2nd post-presidential election Big Linkup. This time we plan to be celebrating!
Special Guest: Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America
FREE - Friends and hangovers are welcome! Come for the celebration, the camaraderie, and the cheap drinks. Stay to learn how we can help President Obama and a Democratic Congress bring about the "Change We Need."
When: Wednesday, November 5, 6:30 - 9:00pm
Where: The Tank @ DCTV, 87 Lafayette St, between White St and Walker St, 1 1/2 blocks south of Canal (accessible)
Closest Subways: 6, N, R, Q, W, J, M, Z to Canal or a 6 block walk from the 1 to Franklin or A, C, E to Canal
So, phonebank today and tomorrow, then come recuperate from all the hard work with DFNYC on Wednesday.
There's so much work to be done between now and then, but I sure hope to see lots of you Wed night here in NYC.
Now let's hit the phones.

Democracy for New York City today announced endorsements of Luke Henry in the AD-64 primary and Kevin Powell who is challenging Ed Towns in NY-10. Oddly, the members of DFNYC decided to take a pass on Dan Squadron in the SD-25 race. Via email:
DFNYC recently held an endorsement vote in the Democratic primary races for US Congress in District 10 (Brooklyn) and NY State Assembly
in District 64 (lower Manhattan), Democracy for NYC members voted to endorse:
Kevin Powell, running against incumbent Congressman Ed Towns in District 10: 72%.
Luke Henry, running against incumbent State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and Paul Newell in District 64: 67%.
DFNYC also held an endorsement vote in the State Senate race in District 25, but neither Senator Martin Connor nor Daniel Squadron achieved the 60% necessary for the DFNYC endorsement.
I'm puzzled by the Henry endorsement, ambivalent about the Powell endorsement and truly baffled by the lack of an endorsement in SD-25.

Last night, DFNYC held their "mock caucus" at a bar here in NYC. It was a fun affair with bribery of caucus-ers with all manner of food and drink eagerly encouraged. Local blogger Dan Jacoby even made an aggressive pitch for, um, himself. The results from the first round were:
23% - John Edwards
18% - Hillary Clinton
16% - Dennis Kucinich
13% - Dan Jacoby (the pride of DFNYC)
11% - Barack Obama
10% - Bill Richardson
8% - Stephen Colbert
For the second round, as it will be in Iowa next month, supporters of candidates who falied to garner at least 15% in the first round were asked to move to their second choice candidate. The final results:
37% - John Edwards
35% - Hillary Clinton
28% - Dennis Kucinich
Hillary upset by Edwards in New York? Stop the presses.
And don't even get me started about Dennis. I mean, the dumplings brought by the Kucinich supporters were divine, but, c'mon.

Democracy for NYC (DFNYC) is committed to the ideals of Democracy for America (you may know it as DFA), the group founded by Howard Dean. We're proud to have TAP folks as members.
DFNYC has continually petitioned electeds to end the war, and spoken out for withholding funds. A totally volunteer, non-profit political action committee, DFNYC works for fiscally responsible, socially PROGRESSIVE candidates to WIN, at ALL levels of government.
Because of yesterday's terrible vote, Democracy for NYC is NOT caving. In point of fact, we are CHARGED. Read on.

I forgot to write about this earlier. It's a very busy day here at TAP. DFNYC is sponsoring a very interesting forum tonight about the NY State Senate. I'll be there and I hope to bring back some video of the discussions. If you are in NYC, come on down!
Please join Democracy for NYC, ACTNOW NY, and Manhattan Young Democrats TONIGHT as we host "A Look Back...A Look Forward" - a forum on the quest to take back the New York State Senate in 2008 for the Democratic Party and the issue of Albany reform.
The event, which will be open to the general public and the media, will be held at Via Lounge, 16 West 21st Street in Manhattan from 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM on Thursday February 15. The actual forum will take place from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM with time allocated before and afterwards for socializing, mingling and conversation. There will be a cash bar and cash menu available throughout the evening.
Special guests at the forum will be State Senators Liz Krueger and Eric Schneiderman, who will be fielding questions and suggestions from the audience. The results of the Feb. 6 special election to fill Michael Balboni's state senate seat on Long Island will also be discussed. There will be no charge to attend the event. It promises to be an informative and entertaining evening.
