Several NY/Tri-State Reps on the Fence on the Public Option

by: BingChester

Wed Oct 21, 2009 at 15:00:09 PM EDT

Chris Bowers has done an outstanding job keeping the whip count going on the robust public option (i.e. Medicare plus 5%).  The count is now up to 210 and it's more important than ever that we start whipping the undecided and wavering representatives.  Here in New York we should expect close to perfect party discipline from our reps, yet a few individuals from the tri-state area are on the fence.  Specifically:

Jim Himes: CT-4
Timothy Bishop: NY-1
Scott Murphy: NY-20
Steve Rothman: NJ-9
Albio Sires: NJ-13

source

These are tangible targets that can be pushed into supporting the public option.  While Timothy Bishop and Scott Murphy may be in competitive seats, the public option is strongly supported by non-Southerns in polls and will vastly increase our bargaining power at the table with the Senate.  Our New York State reps should stand up for their constituents, even in more competitive seats.  If Eric Massa stands for Medicare for All in his district, then Murphy and Bishop can absolutely stand up for the robust public option in their districts.

Call them up before it's too late!

CT-04: Need a break from NY politics?

by: tparty

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 12:23:02 PM EDT

(I attended the first of these events and I did indeed have a blast. Himes is a great candidate and a great guy. You'll have fun and help turn our region that much bluer. - promoted by phillip anderson)

How about sharing a beer with the candidate who's going to finally turn all of New England blue this Wednesday night, a short train ride away in Stamford, CT?

As a born-and-bred New Yorker watching the events of the past week, I know it's been a cringeworthy fortnight for NY progressives. So forget about all of that for one night next week, and meet the candidate who will finally turn all of Connecticut (and New England) blue this fall - Jim Himes

Over the course of this campaign, we really want to build meaningful relationships not just with blogs and activists in the district, but within the entire region as well.

We've been doing these quarterly Pub Quizzes since last September, and they are an absolute blast. Stamford is only 40 mins away by Metro North and the trains run frequently and late. Plus the MTA was even nice enough to not raise fares to CT earlier this month!

This is a great chance to meet the candidate who will finally take down Shays... and to start building tri-state netroots bridges like some type of zombie virtual Robert Moses army.

Plus, free beer, and we promise not to mention the words Client 9 or Joe Bruno.

Chris Shays Pulls A Lieberman, Kisses Bush At SOTU

by: phillip anderson

Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 22:18:35 PM EST

Three years after "the kiss" between Joe Lieberman and George W. Bush, another Connecticut lawmaker kisses Bush after another State Of The Union address. Seriously. Check the video.

I'm pretty sure there are very few folks in CT-04 who feel like giving Bush a kiss. Maybe they need a new Congressman.

UPDATE: Here's that video via FDL:

CT-04: The "Worst Behavior" in Congress in 20 Years? Really?

by: tparty

Thu Dec 13, 2007 at 12:25:44 PM EST

(Join me at the Pub Quiz for Himes Saturday Night! - promoted by phillip anderson)

(Cross-posted at Daily Kos.)

Chris Shays (CT-04) has been in office for two long (too long) decades.

Over that time, he's had the opportunity to question countless witnesses in Congressional hearings - questionable, criminal, devious, and laughable characters ranging from Brownie to Rummy to Wolfie.

The other day, he gave an interview to a major national website. And guess who he told them had exhibited the "worst behavior" he's seen in Congress over all those years?

CT-04: Blograiser and Pub Quiz for Jim Himes Tomorrow

by: tparty

Fri Sep 28, 2007 at 10:39:03 AM EDT

(I've been meaning to post about this all week, though many of you got an email from me about it. I'll be there as one of the blogger co-hosts. Should be a fun event (wish I had more time to form a pub quiz team!) and it's certainly for a great cause. Hopefully, I won't be the sole representative of TAP. Anyone care to join me? - promoted by phillip anderson)

Just a short Metro-North ride away from NYC, and days before the end of the 3Q, the CT blogosphere is co-hosting a pub quiz/blograiser for Jim Himes in CT-04 tomorrow (Saturday) night.

And you should be there:

If you're planning on attending (and it should be a ton of fun), you can skip the checkbook and contribute now online (Suggested donation $25).

If you can't make it, please chip in what you can to help reach our goal of 50 donors by Saturday, and help send Chris Shays packing for good. You can also follow the event live online at My Left Nutmeg, where we're planning on livestreaming the event via UStream.tv.
