Many people dont know that the New York legislature works just between January and June, two to four days a week. In 2006 the two houses were schedulted to work only 65 days! Michigan, California, and Massachusetts are considered among the top three professional legislatures. This Saturday in Michigan a Detroit press article criticized the pay made by their local representatives; "At $79,500 a year Michigan legislators are the second best paid among states with FULL-TIME lawmaking bodies, topped only by California." While i dont agree with that comment-it should have noted that New York part-time representatives were making $79,500 as a base salary way back in 1999. Isnt it time New York had full-time legislators?
