..and hold SD 48: Aubertine gets an even lighter-weight challenger

by: robinia

Looks like both of the people north country Republicans were begging to challenge Aubertine have decided to throw their support behind... David A. Renzi, a lawyer in private practice who is also a town attorney and used to do public defender work.  Wow.

Watertown attorney David A. Renzi said Thursday that he will seek the Republican nomination for the 48th Senate District race, and then picked up support from two key party members.

"I'm very confident in Dave's ability and Dave's candidacy," said former state Sen. James W. Wright, who served the 48th District from 1994 to 2008. "David is the type of individual I see holding the seat - someone who is a new face, and who has not been tainted by government, if you will, and who will bring a new approach."

Mr. Wright, who said he was asked by several locals to run again for his old seat, said his consideration of that idea "was frankly, very short-lived."

Assemblywoman Dierdre K. Scozzafava, R-Gouverneur, also erased all speculation Thursday that she would seek the Senate seat.

"I decided I was content staying with the 122nd Assembly District for now," she said. As for Mr. Renzi, the assemblywoman added: "I'm very pleased that he's willing to step in there and run."

This is the best they can do in Bedrock Country?  Just a very little more is available here, appararently there is not all that much to say about Mr. Renzi, other than that he gets others off Joe Bruno's hook.

Even the Snowbanks Have an Opinion on SD 48!

by: robinia

Tue Feb 26, 2008 at 12:24:54 PM EST

The impending snowstorm cut my volunteering trip to Oswego short by a day, but I thoroughly enjoyed spending Monday helping with the GOTV effort a couple of counties North of me.  One of the best jobs I got given all day was to go take a picture of this, right across the street from the Kingsford Elementary School in Oswego:

The campaign was still really well-organized, and everyone was being kind and considerate, even though the pressure is pretty high.  Some working on the campaign are optimistic and hope for a clear victory this evening for Aubertine, others are expecting a couple of weeks at least of absentee ballot counting, and legal challenges.  But, they were ordering balloons for this evening.  Kudos to the very nice and very dedicated organizers who worked so hard on this very-uphill campaign.
