I'm here at the Take Back America conference down in DC. There are some 3,000 activists, electeds and tons of bloggers here for a three day conference about seizing this moment in our country's history to finally repudiate the failed policies of the dying conservative movement and to offer a compelling vision of a progressive future. I just heard Rep Keith Ellison (D-MN) give a hell of a speech (Take away quote: "Politicians see the light when they feel the heat!") and a great speech by Andrea Batista Schlesinger of our friends at the Drum Major Institute. I'll have video of both here shortly.
But first, I want to do something that I've been wanting to do for quite some time. I started blogging almost 5 years ago. At the time I adopted a nom de blog. It was a simple mnemonic device that I remembered from my childhood as a sailor, "lipris", which stands for "Left Is Port, Right Is Starboard". For many years I refrained from even using gender specific pronouns when referring to myself online. Slowly but surely, my real identity began to slip out here and there across the internets and I pretty much came completely out of the closet of blog anonymity during last year's campaign. The time has come to fully retake my name and today, as I sit here amongst the largest collection of progressive media ever assembled, seems to be a grand time to do so.
My name is Phillip Anderson and I will blog at TAP from here on out under my real name. Lipris has served me well. It was a name that people seemed to remember, but, as of today, lipris is dead. (At least here, anyway. I've got a pretty sweet UID at some other sites that will be hard to give up.)
My name is Phillip. It's nice to meet you.
